After the destruction of its original building in 1853, the Academy reopened in 1854 as the Packer Collegiate Institute, named after former Academy trustee William S. Packer. Packer became a coeducational institution in 1972, and remains one of Brooklyn's most well-known private schools. The Packer Collegiate Institute collection spans the period 1846 to 2002 and contains school publications and ephemera documenting Packer's history and programs.
